Leadership Journey, Research Paper Example

Research Paper

I see myself following a path quite similar to renowned futurist, Raymond Kurzweil (Kurzweil AI Network). I am inquisitive and read on a variety of subject matters as well as stay in touch with the news. All of this helps me expand my thinking horizon and enable me to see the big picture. In addition, I have a sharp memory, thus, I often compare the evolution of past trends with the emerging trends to predict the future.

I want to start as a sole practitioner so that I can invest the time and resources to create a proprietary predictive model without any outside interference. I do not want to focus too much on scale in the early years of my consulting career because my priority will be to build my reputation through quality product and exemplary service to few selected clients. The consulting sector is highly competitive, thus, I would focus on building sustainable core competencies. Once I have developed a record of accurate prediction, I may gradually expand my operations from being one-person business to a mid-size private consulting company and eventually a publicly-listed corporation. While I have a strong self-confidence, I also believe that all of us have unique strengths and potential. Thus, I will not be afraid to delegate and give room to my subordinate to solve problems and act upon their own ideas. I believe people may amaze you if you show confidence in them and give them room to grow.

I will pursue controlled expansion because quality will be one of the primary traits of my company and I will not want to expand too quickly that it lowers the quality of service we provide to the clients. I will also hire new employees only when I am convinced their personalities are compatible with the organizational culture and they are also intellectually curious. This is because I think it is difficult to change personalities, thus, one should only hire individuals who are a good match to the organizational culture because such employees will be more productive and loyal in the long run (Hunt).
