Overview

Leadership is the accumulation of skills and qualities an individual utilizes when he or she is trying to accomplish a task or objective. This influence that the individual has becomes the process in which they pull together the support of others in a common goal. Leadership traits include influencing skills, charisma, intelligence, foresight and integrity to name a few. These traits are critical in the ability to lead a group of individuals to accomplish a common goal. Leadership of communities plays into the fabric and composition of the community as well as what actions need to take place depending on how the community if formed and its complexity. The shaping of the community is influenced by its leadership as well as the keystone activities of the members of the society. Each small transitional activity leads to an overall transformation in the societal makeup.

Community Issues

In regard to societies transformation there are two main areas that require an understanding and focus. The first is that changes that occur within a society should come in small and incremental steps to ensure that the changes not only do not cause an overtly obtuse ripple in the waves of the culture but also that these incremental changes have an opportunity to be digested by the community and ultimately have the chance for success. The next area of focus for a successful implementation of transformation is to ensure that the changes happen in an organic or natural way. Leadership must ensure that the changes to the society happen based on needs or wants of the community and also are transitioned into the society in such a way that seems or feels like a natural fit to the evolution and growth. As with any issue or problem, in order to achieve success with the scenario it is important to understand the current situation. With a community that is stuck they need to understand what is keeping them there and how to remove the roadblocks. The stuck community has a basis for their impending lack of progression based on the fear of change and adherence to a complacent nature. Without the ability to take the risks and move their value sets from that of self-fulfillment and selfish acts the transformation to a high community will not be achievable.

Overall the transformation of a system is based upon the individual members growth and transformation. In regard to leadership, having the right people in place, community goals, large systems of governance and structure all lead to the same basic needs and that is the community convergence on similar goals and aspirations for growth. With each individual there lies opportunity for incremental growth within the society and overall expansion of community. The sense of community will be the glue that holds these individual growth’s together and the physical location and group atmosphere will ensure that the growth traits and enhancements are easily transferred from one member of the community to the other.

The focus on community includes key conversations by leadership to drive change. Each area revolves around invitation, possibility, ownership, dissent, commitment and gifts or hospitality. These areas of conversation are key decision points of the community that is facilitated by the leadership and executed by the members of the community. Individual efforts coupled with leadership will lead to the positive transformation of the community as a whole.
