Learning Environments for Young Children, Essay Example

Essay

Using developmental knowledge to create healthy respectful supportive and challenging learning environments for young children

I interpret this standard to mean that as an educator or child teaching facilitator it is my responsibility to always prepare a place whereby the child is secure and feels confident interacting with facilitators. In achieving this goal my teaching plan must reflect the criterion of building self-esteem in young children, empowering them with a culture of acceptance. My knowledge of their development must be applied during interactions in facilitating the communication process. Besides, a child must be stimulated through this setting to reach their highest potential when accomplishing tasks. Clearly, this standard focuses on attaining the highest level of achievement.

It is very important because some traditional teaching methods and teachers did not allow for validating students’ strength. More importantly, the value of young minds was not perceived in their true developmental perspective. Young children were expected to be quite, speak only when spoken to and treated as though they have no knowledge of their own. However, development psychology teaches that young children have a wealth of information enough for translation into a new era. Early childhood educators with this modern approach  couldbe the initiators of change in providing a more productive  learning environment for young children.

As an educator in early childhood development teaching and learning practice, I can transmit my knowledge through application on the job. The next way in which knowledge could be transferred is through interacting with parents and subtly re-educating them towards appreciating their young children intelligence. With what I have learnt so far, I realize that I am beginning to understand this standard when parents relate their gratitude regarding how their children have improved in attitude and skills after being exposed to my interventions. I chose this standard because it gives me an opportunity to reflect on my early childhood learning experience.
