Legal Requirements and Policies, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 351

Essay

Advanced practice nurses must demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the law and the policies that govern the practice environment. This requires individual nurses to be apprised of legal changes and how they impact direct patient care and decision-making on many levels (Porche, 2012). It is important to practice effectively under these regulations and to optimize the conditions under which nurses must adhere to the regulations that impact their decisions on every level. It is necessary for advanced practice nurses to make important discoveries regarding regulatory and legal requirements in order to effectively meet expectations at a high level and to promote innovation that will positively impact patient care quality. Optimizing the nursing profession requires policies that will operate with the necessary requirements to treat patients effectively, while also considering other factors that influence the practice setting (Newhouse et.al, 2012). These factors provide further support of the legal requirements that the healthcare industry requires to meet patient care needs and for advanced practice nursing in order to effectively manage how patients are treated and what is required to ensure that patient care quality is not disrupted.

Legal requirements and policies within the healthcare industry requires an examination of different perspectives that enable decisions to be made that influence how advanced practice nurses develop their strategies to improve quality of care. Nurses must possess the knowledge, education and licensure to meet the requirements set forth at the advanced practice level and must be able to recognize the value of law and regulatory policy in meeting the needs of the profession on a consistent basis. Advanced practice nurses must keep apprised of changes to the law that may directly influence their roles and must be able to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of legal governance to ensure that patient safety is a priority and strategies will likely contribute to positive results.
