Life Is the Only Real Counselor, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 302

Essay

“Life is the only real counselor; wisdom unfiltered through personal experience does not become a part of the moral tissue.” Edith Wharton

Personally, the quote by Wharton simply touches on the relationship between life, wisdom and personal experience. As much as many people believe that wisdom is inborn, Wharton tends to think otherwise. She believes that an individual gains wisdom as the life process goes own through personal experiences and various life situations.

I personally like and agree with what Wharton strives to place in the minds of people. It is indeed true that the situations that one goes through in life sharpens one’s mind and subsequently leads to development of various tactics of handling such situations in future. This is where growth of wisdom sets in. It is these life experiences that makes and individual to realize ways of exploring unlocked potential to be in a position to make wise decisions. This is a quote that is designated to those people who believe that wisdom is a trait that one is born with. Such individuals should be informed that they can gain wisdom by either learning from friends and people they interact with or from various personal situations and life experiences.

Wisdom happens to be one of the most important qualities in life that every individual need in order to prosper and make decisions that will bring unity, peace and success other than despair. As individuals, we need to be keen when approaching various situations in life because these are the moments where we have to learn and gain as much knowledge as possible. It is this gained knowledge that will put us in a position to make wise and tactical approaches in other situations. This is what makes me agree and qualify life as the real and only counselor as quoted by Wharton.
