As for the characteristics of Loma Linda University, which are particularly attractive as well as meaningful to me, I would like to make mention of that it is a Christian school following absolutely moral principles of its pivotal mission. The fact that I have chosen to apply for advanced education in a Seventh-day Adventist Christian health sciences institution makes certain that its core values appear to be the matter of great significance for me; the thing is that each core value proves the institution to incorporate the commitment to teach ministry of Jesus Christ in order to make this world much friendlier and healthier.
Apart from being targeted on Loma Linda University due to its strict Christian norms, obliging the students to accept the policy of entirely righteous global mission, I must admit that my interest in the aforementioned institution can also be explained by striving to get my degree here in the United States of America; the point is that I am aimed at becoming a teacher at a dental school in order to expand my horizon within the dentistry area and share my knowledge and skills that I plan to sharpen in LLU with the students. I would like to admit that LLU is obviously a place I am targeted on, since its characteristics, including absolutely pure approach to educating the students emerge to be the matter of great importance for me; its core values as well as the unique conditions for studying make me want to go that school. As for the further stage of my career, I have strictly defined it to be getting degree in the United States in order to practice dentistry as a dentist; moreover, I am also focused becoming a teacher at a dental school.
Indisputably, my past influenced my present and future; life experience appeared to be an integral part of myself. I was born in Iraq and moved to the United States only few years ago. The Iraqi society which I grew up in was a kind of very specific environment. I often happened to see a lot of confessional strives and inter-caste conflicts. I witnessed political riots. In childhood, I could not understand why people live in violence and aggressiveness. I must admit that I am a religious person. There was a period in my life when I became aware what it is like to examine patients’ problems as a dentist for free. Enrolling in a Mobile Dental Program meant being the first part in the problem resolution process. I was very satisfied that I was able to help people in examining patients’ teeth and diagnosing dental situations.
Those years that I was working in the Christian Mission turned to be a great and inappreciable experience for me. Since that time I crystallized my awareness of the personal qualities necessary to cope with the dental functions. What I mean is that my striving to be involved with the problems as well as stories of others appeared to be one my core values to follow. What is more, I must admit that among the qualities that I believe to aid in considering my application, it is necessary to distinguish justice, which matters a lot for me. The thing is that every time I treat the patients, I pay special attention to avoiding unfair discrimination, since proving all people to be equal in their rights is some sort of my personal goal. Apart from justice, I draw special attention to providing exceptionally highly-qualified services. The last but not the least, I am also concerned about coming to mutual understanding with each patient.
My family was originally catholic and very religious. When I was 11 years old, we moved to a new house that was next to a protestant church where the pastor came to visit us and welcomed us in the neighbourhood. After that we started going to that church weekly and we became believers of their church and that’s how I learned more about Jesus as I grew up. Then my aunt’s husband became a pastor at that church and he always used to talk to us and teach us about Jesus. We always prayed together at church and at home.
Currently, I can surely confirm life to be impossible without faith. This understanding often endows me with an endless power to overcome all the life’s obstacles. One of the main sources of faith which helped me reach success is religion. Considering my awareness and attitude towards Jesus Christ, it becomes clear that Jesus Christ is the head of the kingdom of God established by Him, called the Church, in which the faithful are saved, led and strengthened by the Holy Spirit.
On the basis of the impact of my spiritual origins and experience on my daily life, I managed to clearly see in Holy Bible, by the will of father and out of pity for sinners, Jesus Christ came into our life and turned to be a man. By sayings and instances of Jesus Christ I taught myself to live this life hoping to occur as righteous person who will be allowed to come into the paradise. In order to cleanse our sins and overcome the death, Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose again on the third day; the abovementioned words prove this life to be worth getting through so as to spread God’s word.
Speaking about working as a dentist, I must say that during my practice I came to the conclusion that spiritual values occur as the fundamental key to successful treatment of people. Using my faith-based approach to examining the patients, I manage to assist people in finding solutions to their problems. It is important to say that spiritual life is a major influence in my life; I believe spiritual dimensions in dentistry field practice affirm that spirituality and religious beliefs are integral parts of the entity of an individual and possess a vital impact on people’s behavior.
A peculiar thing is that many dentists, being Christians, do not actually hold to the idea that there is such a thing as Christian social work. Yet, in my view, integrating spiritual values into the area of your occupation is an integral part of efficient performance. I am conscious that any kind of involvement has to be guided by principles of Christianity, although the basis of these norms rarely has been evidently interpreted. A significant professional aim for Christian dentists appears to be examining the moral values of the occupation as well as the values and beliefs derived from a biblical perspective.
I believe such a faith-based education will be a special benefit to me, since I will sharpen my understanding of Christianity. I reckon that LLU will broaden my horizon from the perspective of challenges that people should pass through in order to overcome the barrier of incompleteness. Moreover, a faith-based education is likely to enable me to become a teacher at a dental school; it will give me the chance to popularize the spiritual constituent that people need to keep inside, since disregarding faith-based outlook is likely to result in an unfavorable outcomes of dentistry practice.
Obviously, Loma Linda University has lifestyles which incorporate abstinence from alcohol, tobacco and illicit drugs/substances in all forms while enrolled. I must admit that in case I am accepted to this Seventh-day Adventist institution, I will definitely abide all the Christian principles that LLU encourages to obey. To be precise, I must admit that I will surely abide all the lifestyle expectations, since all the institution’s norms are not totally new to me; it is worth saying that I never used to smoke. Furthermore, alcohol is not some sort of my weakness, and I do not remember when I drank excessive amounts. As a result, it becomes apparent that the principle of abstinence will not be a problem for me.
Apart from the aforementioned taboos, I am also aware that my application states an agreement to abide the principle of respect for all the students having various faiths. If I am accepted, I will inevitably attend religious courses, which do not contradict my personal belief; I remember about Biblical Sabbath obliging the students to have rest, reflection, and renewal. The last but not the least, I clearly realize the need to match the policy of professional appearance, which includes ban on visible tattoos, etc.
On the whole, I would like to make mention that once my candidacy is approved; I will do my best in order to demonstrate the willingness to enrich my knowledge within the dentistry field, drawing special attention to bridging the gap between the occupation and spiritual experience. Loma Linda University emerges to be the institution I am eager to study in, since its terms and conditions are in the alignment with my own education expectations.
