Lord of the Flies: Conflicting Themes

Lord of the Flies concentrates on challenging the perception of humans over the importance of giving attention to their desires versus their need to follow moral rules. Most often than not, the human desires are against what is considerably morally acceptable. The conflicts occurring because of the emergent inconsistencies between these two factors particularly identify with the assumption of good versus evil.  With use of symbolical themes and characters, the conflict between savagery and civilization has been shown to effectively create a distinct distance between the points of living that these communities follow through. Nevertheless, the irony of these communities’ existence and function could be seen to redefine the ways by which extensive development is seen accordingly.

The degree of the incoming values of civilization are expected to create a much better sense of perceiving life as an element of existence among human individuals living in a particular community. However, in contrary to this belief, the novel shows how supposedly the point of civilization brought about by modern courses of living has alienated the determination of the people to live better and moral lives. The institution of new desires actually create a more defined pattern of living among individuals; relatively, creating a more distinct sense of reassuring a source of the completion of one’s desire.   The competition between moral values versus the creation of desires and the ways by which they are reached usually undergoes a particular pattern of personal and social conflict; one that questions the capacity of a person to decide properly especially in the hope of embracing a better life basing on whether or not they are going to follow their personal wants or the moral values that ought to follow a certain pattern of decision-making; a guide towards doing what is right.
