Low Quality of Education in Public Schools, Essay Example

Pages: 3

Words: 883

Essay

Most of the parents have complained about the quality of education in public schools for a very long period of time. People have always put the whole blame on teachers who are said to send their children to private schools where they receive adequate education and teach the rest of the students poorly. However, such a big problem that has occurred for a long period of time cannot lie at the fit of just one group of persons.

The entire teachers unions have been protecting ineffective teachers who have failed to provide the required education to students though there are some diligent teachers who have been undermined. The administrations have always failed to encourage such diligent teachers in the community in which they are the only persons in the child’s life who advocates the merit of education. It is because of such failures that make most of the public schools to perform poorly. The big issue should be finding educators and administrators who truly care about the children they teach and encouraging them to do the best of what they are trained on. In most of the inner cities, which include Los Angeles, IEP is set and hence the teachers and their heads are always sent to some schools just because they are rejected in other places. Such people do not want to work in those places and hence they fail to teach as expected as they work by force. When an individual is forced, he or she will treat the kids and the parents accordingly thus the poor outcome of results. This is what has lowered the quality of education in public schools. Should teachers, parents, and administration work together with the same spirit about the children they serve, then there could be some positive results in public schools.

The public schools are overpopulated and this has made efficient teaching almost impossible. More than fifty million Americans are enrolled in public schools about a sixth of the whole population and twenty million others are on the faculty. The constitution does not state clearly on how the system of education should be handled in times of crisis and more on the universal public education. There are a lot of conflicting goals in the system of education and this is what it makes the public schools to perform poorly. Those people who are economically stable enroll their students in charter schools and this is what it lowers the quality of teaching in public schools as they are fully managed by the willing administrators and teachers as they are well paid.

It has been noted that several poor, inner-city, and minority kids in community schools get law quality education and this is not a new argument. The chronological context is significant and can be traced to back to education act that was amended in 1965,in which for the first time headed considerable national financial support to public schools attended by such kids. This is a clear indication that the substantial government had been doing little in helping the children from the poor families who attend public schools and this has made the teaching staff to relax. There was also some racial discrimination in early seventies and this also brought down the quality of education in public schools. This was brought to an end by President George w. Bush with his campaign of no child left behind and it has been supported by Barrack Obama.

There is a greater problem with higher education and it has not undergoes any reforms but its major fundamentals are arising. The scheme is so vast and a lot of colleges which offers degrees online are emerging at an alarming rate. Most of the colleges are profit oriented and hence they don’t provide any quality education. This is what it makes the graduates to miss jobs in the markets and thus engaging in various crimes such as cyber crimes. The private universities are getting the big names unlike the public universities which are claimed to be overloaded with students who lack the necccessary materials to foster their education while in campus.

The government has put a lot of concern on other issues like rebuilding Iraq and helping other disputed countries as well as deregulating banks and forgets the field of education. What the government should do to improve the quality of education in public schools is by allocating the required funds to the ministry. The constitution should also be amended to support the public schools to ensure that all the children get what they expect from teachers. The parents should also play their role of ensuring that their students study when they are at home because the kids are with their teachers for only few hours a day. Parents should also stop from criticizing the teachers and they should give them time to do what they are able to. Even though there are a lot of claims in the public schools learning, we would do it fit to be grateful for what the founding fathers of our country has created, and to do our part by correcting what has gone wrong for the betterment of the future generation.
