Pages: 1

Words: 295

Essay

Loyalty is a promise to be true to someone or thing. Being loyal to the United States of America is defined in the Pledge of Allegiance. In everything that one does, he/she should show respect to everything that represents the United States of America. By definition, loyalty demands that we commit our selves to a person, group, or cause.  In order to be loyal, one must be mature enough to understand the concept. The United States was founded by patriots who were willing to die in order to be a part of a free nation. Being an American means that one possess certain values like pride, resilience, trustworthy, and perseverance. Loyalty is usually considered a virtue. If is conveyed by one’s perseverance and commitment to the United States of America. For example, a person who is loyal to this country will respect the American flag and what it stands for. Also, to be American is possess certain qualities. American value education and therefore take learning serious. American has a resilient spirit. For example, when Hurricane Katrina hit in New Orleans, the people of New Orleans showed resilience. Some of those people who lost everything, but were willing to relocate or rebuild instead of just giving up. Another example of being loyal to America is to show respect for our beautiful countryside. Often as one travels, one sees trash lining the sides of the roads. In my opinion, that is the most un-American thing that a person can do. Through trash out on the roads is conveying that one cares less about his/her country. Finally, the way we treat foreigners conveys our American spirit. We must respect all people regardless of their ethnicity, religion, or creed. After all, America is a huge melting pot of diversity.
