One of the main international news stories that is occurring is related to the current status of Al Qaeda. A majority of these stories have demonstrated that we are attempting to counter terrorism in a manner that is harming civilians, although some targets are being destroyed. One of these recent targets was Adam Gadahn, a U.S.-born individual who was abducted by the organization. He became a member of the society and was eliminated by the military on Thursday (Botelho). To counter this success, a U.S. drone killed two hostages of this organization (Diamond). One victim, Giovanni Lo Porto is being remembered for the life that he dedicated to helping others (Botelho). This is concerning because it is necessary for the government to assess how it is attempting to resolve these counterterrorism efforts in a manner that protects the innocent.
