Essay

My encounter with snow happened in 2004 as I drove from New York to Minnesota. Unfortunately, I was caught in a snow storm in the Pocono Mountains. I must say it was stressful to navigate in this weather condition.

My nerves breezed when I saw trucks and cars that had flipped from driving too fast, had no option but to deal with the condition bearing in mind that I was to reach my destination. To avoid falling in the category I slowed my speed and applied techniques that could help handle this kind of winter driving condition.

Skid control and prevention, braking ABS and without, collision avoidance maneuvers and proper vision skills were some of the techniques that I applied. It was during this time that my car emergency kit that contained an ice scraper and snow brush, bag of sand, salt, emergency warming flares and gloves became useful I was lucky since I had it all.

I felt like screaming and calling for assistance especially at instances where I had to watch out for slow moving vehicles like sand trucks so that I could not get close to them. It forced me to drive at 10mph for almost five hours. I felt bad since I had to miss my Niece birthday party; definitely I was to arrive late after hard hurdles of a snow storm. After a tough battle with the kind of winter weather condition I managed to reach my destination, Minnesota. I was so tired and exhausted.

Driving a car is never “easy” this statement becomes applicable in rough weather conditions for instance winter. There is a need to learn and practice driving, turning and stopping in the snow since you will never know where it can find you.
