Essay

Managers will have to face many challenges in a diverse world. Times continue to change and so does the composition of any group. Because of this being “politically correct” is not just an idea it is essential for the survival of any business. With many different races, beliefs, orientations, and cultural practices it can cause a very diverse work force. When a manager does not recognize the diversity, it can become very easy to offend a party. The consumer market is diverse, so this is the best way to reach the target audience. Utilizing what each individual can bring to the table and not discriminating due to differences.

Managers face challenges in a changing world as well. Technology continues to progress, making the demands of the consumers to have the latest and greatest. Speed, affordability, and convenience continue to change the requirements of any business. What worked for a manager yesterday may not be as effective the next day. Managers need to be able to make changes fast and in the most cost efficient way possible.

I have learned many factors about leadership. The one that was the most important is learning how to lead by example. I have worked in many situations where I had no respect for my managers simply because they demanded what they would never give. It was a do as I say not as I do type of environment, which was not conducive to business. It produced poor productivity because employees were unwilling to give more than the absolute minimum. This is important for me because I want my employees to see the right way to do things and give a hundred percent because they are following my example. It’s earning respect, not demanding it.

I am qualified to be a leader because I am willing to learn. Knowing personal differences of my employees will allow me to communicate with them effectively. Adjusting to a changing market will allow me to be as efficient and effective as possible. Listening and communication will prevent misunderstandings and wasted time and money. It will also allow an efficient communication flow by providing an open door with the leader. Finally, leading by example will allow me to see any potential difficulties that may arise and make necessary changes.
