Essay

What each learned about how to achieve high performance and efficiencies in their respective industries.

Henry Ford

He learnt that the introduction of change could lead to losses if not managed well. Introduction of the moving conveyer belt resulted in financial success. Despite the success, workers did not like the monotony the machine caused. He also learned that workers need motivation such as salary increment and change of work hours and conditions. This is because physical characteristics have a significant impact on work performance. He also learned that controlling resources were crucial if maximum return is to be realized, and the need to introduce a new management style.

Andrew Carnegie

He learnt that introducing a new management style would enable him to realize increased profits. He also learnt that introducing the new administrative management theory will help to devise ways to increase performance. He also learned that reduction of operating costs would help to increase production and profits.

Operating costs are reduced through increasing working hours, not paying attention to worker grievances as well as unchanged working conditions, which in turn led to increased productivity.

Henry Ford’s major management task

His principal task was supervision. This is so because his aim was to supervise and control the way workers used resources. He also hired several supervisors to ensure that workers were supervised both at work and at home. The supervision ensured that all workers concentrated, on their work, to avoid wastage of time. The best behavior of employees resulted in increased production despite the conflicts that often came up.

Andrew Carnegie’s major management task

The main task was a reduction of operating costs. This is so because he increased the working hours and paid workers low wages. This is despite the fact that the worker’s skills were a vital contribution to increased productivity. He also did not mind their working conditions despite their grievances. Accidents were frequent since he did not care to provide safe working environments.
