Essay

Due to the recommendation that the state of New York restructures its public health system by an independent commission, the facility I manage is set to merge with another facility, which is an outpatient rehabilitation centre. During this time of uncertainty, I expect to confront some problems and challenges. First of all, there is the problem of transferring some of the staff of the organizations due to the merger. It is likely to create problems as most of the employees have established themselves in this town they work in. They may also have their families here in the town they work currently. Therefore they may be very uncomfortable and unwilling to transfer. Again there might be problems relating to the increase in the amount of work without a concurrent increase in the workforce.

In solving the problems, I will use the following skills. First, I will ensure that I focus on the strategy of merging the two facilities, and maintain the focus on the value, the vision and the spirit of the organization (Becker 2006).  This will include a clear communication of what is required of the employees, while relating them to the vision of the organization, its goals, its values and strategies. I will also ensure that all the employees feel that they are very important to the health facility as an individual and as a team. I will explain them that they are quite important in the success of the health facility. This will help in solving the problem of the employees being transferred to work in other different places as they will understand that it is part of the strategy of the organization in achieving its objectives. They will also understand its their responsibility to work in any health facility.

Another strategy I will employ in solving this problem will be focusing on team development (John 1988). This will focus on making a team which has a high performance and is very elite. The decisions I make should all be supporting primarily the objectives of the business. I will start by improving each of the employees as an individual to cope up with the increased work load. Each person will be given his responsibilities and he must accept them. Then he will be responsible for the outcomes of the responsibilities and actions. All the decisions are made in support of the greater team. This will ensure that as a team, each person has a designated responsibility and he must accomplish it for the success of the team. Therefore the strategy will help in solving the problem of increased workload without an increase in labor force.
