Mariah Carey Conclusion, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 386

Essay

To understand Mariah Carey is to understand a great deal more than the importance within our culture of celebrity.  Her Cinderella-like rise to fame demonstrates her ability to overcome the many cultural, financial, and personal obstacles that might have caused a lesser person to give up completely.  Instead, Carey has turned her difficulties into object lessons:  using them to increase her drive, resilience, and musical accomplishments.

Motivated by her dreams of super-stardom and her desire to show the world that she has both the vocal range and the songwriting abilities to back up her status as Diva, Carey continues to make music that speaks to the emotional needs of her countless fans.  As Mark Shapiro writes in his unauthorized biography of the singer, her most recent history as a singer, philanthropist, and mother demonstrates that “Mariah Carey has finally taken her music and her life to the adult world” (Shapiro 11).  Her current projects reflect a growing musical and personal maturity that allows her to stand as a role model for young people worldwide as she promotes charity, personal development, and human kindness.  According to the charity website Look to the Stars, Carey is “a Congressional Horizon Award recipient for her humanitarian work and is well known for her efforts to help disadvantaged children” (Look to the Stars).

Despite the addition of twins to her family, Carey continues to make musical history.  As reported on her official website, “the 2011 holiday season has barely started and “All I Want for Christmas is You” is already topping chart’s again!” (Mariah: The Official Fan Site).  It’s unlikely that Carey will slow down any time soon; at the age of 41, she has reached countless musical goals, including being named “one of the best-selling female artists of all time” (Biography).  However, fans and critics alike will watch Carey’s career continue to evolve as her newfound confidence and maturity is reflected through her music, her charity works, and her public persona as a strong and intelligent diva to be reckoned with.
