Marijuana is problem in the community although it has a wide application in many parts and its legalization has been advocated for. The reason why many people justify the use of marijuana use is because of its medicinal properties but all the same, its merits can never match the problems it causes to the community. But majority of the people make use of marijuana for purposes of easing the discomfort attributed to chronic diseases such as cancer and they forget that, this can translate to addiction therefore leading to serious mental health issues, heart and lung complications. Such complications lead to the need for intervention that is not constructive in the community.

The addictive effects of marijuana abuse translate to severe social implications. Marijuana has been associated with numerous negative effects on the daily life of the user. Performance at the work place as well as at school is affected due to decreased motivation that is attributed to abuse of marijuana. This leads to irresponsibility and the burden is further carried forward to the community. Addictive habits in marijuana use has been associated with negative outcomes in the life of the user which includes high cases of school dropout, negative effects on career achievements, cognitive abilities, mental and physical health as well as the entire social life of the user.

The community suffers due to the use of marijuana as it is a cause of danger to the health of the user and also, results to a danger to public order. Users are prone to criminal activities, idleness as well as insanity which consequently affect the community. The use of marijuana is a threat to public safety due to the possibility of crime as well as antisocial conducts that are associated with its use. The abuse of marijuana is also a potential cause for delinquent behavior, poor relationships within the family, rebellion as well as aggression.
