Marriage in Shakespeare, Essay Example

Essay

Men and women in a married relationship are sworn to manage to deal with each other in a tactic that would be most likely balanced in responding to each others’ needs. These needs include mental, physical and emotional conditions of satisfaction. Based on the Kate’s speech though, it was obvious how during her time, wives were considered to have a lesser value than the husbands. Relatively, the description she uses to define her relationship with Petruchio was dedicated towards pointing out that she is being abused and she likely cannot say or do anything about it but to accept everything as it comes along. The treatment that she receives from her husband actually makes such condition harder. Being of a lesser value against men, women are bound to suffer because of the unscrupulous position that men take against women.

Although at present, it could be understood that the recognition of women has changed accordingly, there are still instances when women are given less regard by their husbands. The torture and abuse may not be of a physical form, and yet negative verbal conversations often make it harder for wives to specifically realize their value as humans. To make sure that such instances could be reduced, legal sanctions have been designed to make an indicative impact on how men treat their wives. For instance, the law punishes a man who abuses his wife depending on its gravity.

Subjection is a need that women should recognize about their position in a marriage. Nevertheless, this does not mean that a woman should follow everything her husband says or commands about without thinking nor analyzing if such treatment is rightful for her to realize and experience. Every person, even women ought to be respected; and in marriage, such value for respect should be considered accordingly as it defines the value and worth of the relationship that both men and women share as couples who are sworn to live their lives together.
