Society’s Viewpoint

Society has varying views on marriage. Society is currently divided when it comes to marriage. According to a research conducted by Pew Research Center and published in January 2014 revealed that 50% of the respondents within the study believed that people are just as well off if individuals within society have priorities other than marriage and family. 46% of the respondents believe that society is better off is marriage, children and family are society’s main purpose (Pew Research Center for the People & the Press).

My Viewpoint

I hold the notion that marriage is sacred and ought to be respected. I believe that marriage should be between one man and one woman, and polygamy is a distortion of the very essence of marriage. Furthermore, I believe that marriage was made to be sheared between a man and a woman and not individuals of the same sex.

The Bible’s Viewpoint

Marriage is a sacred union between a man and woman and is embodied in a vow that is shared between the man and the woman. The original vision that God had for the marriage was a union between two people who have consented to live together. Marriage was only meant to be between one man and one woman as depicted in Genesis 2:22-24

22 then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, for she is taken out of man. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. (Genesis 2:22-24)
