Essay

My choice to select the school of P.A at Southern Utah University out of the many public administration institutions is founded on several factors. These factors include; professional and qualified faculty members, the ability to link the class theoretical learning with real-life practicality, the interdisciplinary nature of your curriculum, and, more important the personalized attention to the students’ interests and needs. The numerous courses within the public administration graduate program ranging from Law, Research Methods, Ethics, Human resources, among others combined with the knowledge base of prolific researchers such as Joe Vallet and Dr. Pool Funai, means I will be exposed to the field of public administration in various perspectives. Additionally, studying modules that have not formed part of my previous education experience, such as Administrative law, make me interested in being a member of this prestigious institution.

Having finished my first degree in Integrated Rural Art and Industry in 2011 at Ghana, I deem myself as a hardworking and innate motivated individual having an interest in education. With the unique nature of the program at SUU, nothing excites me than finding myself in the midst of the class interacting with public administration professionals and class colleagues. I am more confident in my dedication to fulfilling this program.  My dedication to excellence is focused on taking the full advantages of the unique opportunities that are present at Southern Utah University to first-year students to become adapted to research. I look forward to being part of the Southern Utah diversity and further be part of the professional class upon graduating. As a Ghanaian man with excellent language abilities and communication skills, I believe I can add force to the program as I simultaneously gain from it.

At the current moment, I am involved with everything that is concerned with public management, participatory as well as collaborative governance. I am working as a Planning Officer at the Aowin Municipal Assembly of the Local Government Service, Ghana. In my position, I am supposed to be the leader in strategic planning, ensure that there are effective integration and implementation of public policies and programs, thus attaining sustainable economic growth and development. That said, my current job revolves around the administration of resources and individuals; thus, I believe a master’s degree from your institution with an emphasis on the local and state government is a perfect fit for me. Additionally, I volunteered at Little Hope Community Center for the Elderly located in Birim Central Municipal District in Ghana. Throughout my volunteering period, I attained vital communication and interpersonal skills, which I deem important in interacting with others in the class.  A master’s degree in public administration will open me to a field of conducting researches, projects, and analyzing real case studies, thus strengthening my professional decisions in the future. Additionally, the master’s degree is necessary as I intend to become a top scholar on issues to do with Public Administration; hence the MPA is a gateway to doctoral and further studies in the future as well.  I further admire the research contributions made by Professor Angela Pool-Funai at your institution on how she links Public Administration to every aspect of life, thus making this field an interesting one to me in particular.

I understand that SUU is an institution that values diversity and teamwork, and I must confess that I bring all these traits as acquired from my work experience and past schooling. From books that are relevant to the field, I am much aware of the intense nature that comes up with this program. However, I believe that, where there is determination, it is where the way can be found. I thus look forward to demonstrating my diligence, passion, determination, and commitment. While my short term objective is to attain admission and graduate with a master’s degree from your reputable institution, my long term goals are to become a top scholar in public administration. I intend to expand my knowledge base on the subject and publish numerous articles and books relevant to this field.
