Master’s in Public Administration, Essay Example

Throughout my life, I have always believed that hard work and a positive attitude would lead me to succeed.  For the past ten years, I received my education, while simultaneously enjoying a challenging and successful career.  I have been privileged to provide quality service to a company dedicated to improving the local community.  Pursuing a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) will allow me to attain a stronger leadership role and better serve even more communities on a much greater scale.

A strong community has always been important to me, so in 2004, I began my career as an executive assistant at the Lake Worth Chamber of Commerce.  For two years, I organized meetings and conferences and performed basic clerical duties.  Then in 2006, I began working as a marketing program manager and project coordinator for the Lake Worth Community Redevelopment Agency.  For the past ten years, I have been responsible for creating and managing all products, branding the CRA’s image, and developing graphics and templates for all departments.  I organized Lake Worth Community Redevelopment Agency’s many social events, such as annual business seminars, catering, ribbon cuttings, and grand openings. I assisted with the 1000 Lake Avenue Mural Project and organized the Gateway’s/Downtown Banner Program.  I was responsible for the installation of the Holiday Tree in the Cultural Plaza, planning the annual Board Retreat, and submission for annual FRA awards.  For our NSP2 program, I ensure Lake Worth Community Redevelopment Agency was awarded $23M in federal funds.  Currently, I am working on the implementation of a NET Program.

Various awards that I have won include: Florida Redevelopment Association Awards Winner, Florida League of Cities Cultural Diversity Award Winner, National Development Council Award Finalist, and the International Economic Development Council Bronze Award Winner.  For the past ten years, I have been a member of the Florida Notary Service.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Business Management at Florida Atlantic University in May, 2010.  My experience at FAU was very positive; this is why I would like to pursue higher learning at this institution.  I highly value education and in August, 2012, I completed my Emergency Management Training, and in October, 2013, I attended the Community Leadership Institute in Sacramento, California.  In May, 2015, I received my Core Certificate in Arts Management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

I would like to pursue my MPA at Florida Atlantic University’s School of Public Administration.  When communities thrive, people have access to better opportunities for work and entertainment.  My experience in both my education and career have prepared me to reach out to a greater number of communities and provide service on a greater scale.  Earning my MPA will provide me with the skills and leadership requirements to make that dream possible.
