Matewan, Essay Example

Essay

Matewan, a movie on worker oppression, has been created by John Sayles in response to the desire of pointing out the truth to major viewers in the society during the time. Set in West Virginia, the scenes of the movie provide a relative condition of mirroring the most common scenes in the community in relation with workers from the minor sectors of the society. Labor disputes in the 1920’s specifically increased especially when it comes to consideration over the influx of incoming workers from Alabama who are likely African Americans. In the movie, it was shown that racial discrimination was a source of common conflict among workers and coming from the presentations of the movie, this is a serious consideration that needs to be given attention to. In a way, the movie presentation creates a knowledgeable understanding on how the problem should be dealt with through allowing them the capability to be free in relation to realizing their worth not only as employees but as individuals as well. Serving as a mirror to reality, the managers of the current years could actually get a valuable lesson from the movie through seeing how they should identify with the minorities who are members of the worker-population in their organization.
