Me and Learning, Essay Example

Essay

What did you learn about yourself?

I think this course was very helpful for me in particular, for it provided me with the concept and process of organizational change, and reasons for change to occur. Throughout my live I always considered change to happen when things go wrong, and something needs to be corrected. This course completely changed my perception of this concept, for now I understand that change can occur for good – for improvement and progress. Thus, I started asking myself, whether there is anything to be changed and improved in the company I currently work for, and in my personal life as well.

What was the most important learning you will take away or the most important insight gained from this class?

I think the most valuable insight I learned in this class was Kotter’s eight step change process. Previously, I thought facilitating change is fast and simple, and the only thing you need is the desire for change. However, Kotter helped me to realize that change process consists of certain consistent and consecutive steps, which lead to a successful change over time. I realized that change is not singlehanded, but implemented through team work and cooperation. “Major change is usually impossible unless most employees are willing to help, to the point of making short-term sacrifices. (Kotter, 12) Another valuable activity was Multiple Perspective assignment, which provided me with and insight of a system that looks on things at different perspectives and angles, thus implying there are always multiple solutions and outcomes to every problem.(Senge, 1994)

How will you use these concepts in your current position?

From now on, I will definitely pay more attention to changes occurring within my organization, and to any possible changes opportunities. I already have some ideas regarding the ways for our company to improve, thus some changes must be facilitated. I will create a report with all the information and suggestions, and discuss it with stakeholders and top management. Thus, not only I will try to become a part of the change, but I am willing to lead this process, and apply the theories, strategies, and models I have learned throughout the course.
