Meaningful Conversations, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 287

Essay

In order to restore the hope for the future, people should focus on solutions instead of the distractions of the present. The problems of today’s generation seem to be repeated over the world, and they cause frustration, conflict and lack of meaningful conversation.

In order to practice meaningful conversations, people need to create a common ground that would be the basis of the community. There are several communities; local and even global. The common goal creates meaningful conversations; something that is based on an idea that benefits all. People, in order to create meaningful conversations, need to acknowledge each others as equal, be interested in each other, slow down to listen and reflect and look at a conversation as a process of thinking together.

Disturbances are common in today’s world. However, closing up for influences does not lead to conversation. People need to be willing to be disturbed; in other words: open. Reacting on one’s own surprises and disagreements is the way towards accepting others. This also means that one accepts that their own perspective is narrow and they are open to accept different views, opening the horizon to new ideas. Instead of excluding opposite or different views, one should carefully listen to them and examine them. They can add to the truth that they accept about the matter. Resistance of hearing the truth can lead to failures, acceptance can lead to common ground, communities and expanded knowledge.Unwilling to change is the main reason why others do not listen to each other. They do not want distraction and do not want to change their opinion. This means that they miss out on new ideas and other views of the same matter and do not understand the complexity of life.
