Was the digital version of the story duplicated word-for-word from the print version? If not, what differences did you notice and what do you believe the significance of those differences were?
The publication I chose was New York Times published on November 10, 2013. The front page’s primary title is about the news on the rising death toll among Filipinos because of typhoon Haiyan. The print-out version highlights the news through posting a relative image that defines the actual situation in the country [particularly in Tacloban].
The digital version however had more images posted alongside the data. This made the report even more compelling and appealing to the audience. Aside from this, the page where the report has been posted also has commentary forums below it which allowed for audience response where they express their emotions and opinions about the matter.
Along with these, several links are also posted in the same page hence making a distinct path where the news is specifically elaborated on all the other websites featuring the same news. Commentaries and feature articles on the matter are included within the links allowing the readers to have a more in depth understanding of the matter.

Did either one of the versions, either print or online, feature additional complimenting media such as videos, photos, links, or infographics that the other version did not include? If so, what were these bits of media and how exactly did they compliment or inform the story?
Yes, both articles had complimenting elements, however the digital copy had a more compelling effect on how the readers view the news’ overall value. The print version has a photo that accompanies it showing the devastated situation in the country. On the other end, the digital version had both the images and the videos accompanying the data making the information presented gain higher value for the listeners to understand.
Compare differences in the way that each story was created for its particular platform. For example, stories prepared for tablets may include bulleted lists instead of long paragraphs. How do these formatting differences affect the reading experience? Which format, print or online, did you find “easier” to read? Why?
The print story was quite wordy, trying to describe everything else that happened through utilizing several adverbs and adjectives within the article as if giving the readers a glimpse of the actual situation. Meanwhile, the digital version was more on the facts. The presentation was simple and bulleted thus leading the readers into a more factual pattern of understanding what the news was trying to impose. In a way, the digital version was easier to read and understand, however the print version was a little more intriguing to read as it provides more in depth information that the writer/s might have thought to e important in giving the news a better and higher value for reading.
Was there a difference in the theme or the author’s main points between the two differing news story formats? If so, what were these differences and what do you believe their significance is? If you didn’t notice any thematic or logical differences between the two news story formats, do you believe there should have been differences? Why or why not?
The points of the author were rather similar on the part of presenting data both on the print and the digital version. However, it could not be denied that the approaches used on the different media affected the entire message itself and how the readers interpret the matter presented in the article.

Were you able to locate the online publication on social media and, if so, where? Do you believe the newspaper’s use of social media platforms is consistent with your perceived “image” of the newspaper and its journalistic goals?
Yes, New York Times uses facebook, twitter and instagram as part of their social media campaign platforms. Such involvement in the said platforms allow the said publication to send alerts to regular subscribers regarding the latest news that are posted in the website and about the newest developments that are available in the mobile industry that their avid followers might be interested in. Relatively, this is consistent with their desire to inform the public within a real time pattern as the news happens.
Generally, did you find several stories that existed in both the digital and traditional formats of the newspaper, or did you find that there was largely unique content for each separate format? What do you believe the significance is of these overlaps, or lack of overlaps, between the two different formats?
The news contents on both versions were relatively similar. It is however the presentation of each story that are different hence making a different valuable point on how the audience of both versions would actually respond to the news stories presented to them. These overlaps specifically occur to make sure that the audience catered by both mediums of information presentation would be able to reach the expectation of the public depending on the platform they use to give out the needed data that supports each story’s value.
