When it comes to developing good and practical health care programs for the society to gain great benefits from, I have learned from this course that it is important to look closely to what the people need and not simply assume on such matters. For instance, there are several healthcare support policies that have been established by the government. However, not all of these policies are applicable to all types of communities. The truth is, medical social workers are given the responsibility to look through what the people actually need. In observing such issue, it is evident how cultural background, social demographics and social medical standpoint of the people help in determining the needs of the public.
I have also learned from this course that social inequality affects the process of providing proper healthcare procedures for the people so much, especially in areas where immigrants choose to settle. The need to make sure that the budget provided by the government gets allotted on things and medical supplies that the people need the most is very important. Since the focus is on social work, diversity is an element that must be lived through. There is no choice but to consider such element as a common factor that identifies well with the role that medical social workers take into account.
The topic on healthcare policies that provide assistance to poverty-stricken members of the society appeals to me so much. I have realized that somehow, the government has allotted so much for the healthcare of the people, especially those who cannot afford to achieve particular medical attention and medical procedures to protect themselves from particular healthcare anomalies. Supposedly, with such attention coming from the government, it would be much easier to handle healthcare issues among public settlers in several countries around the world. However, there is the element of wrong implementation. People working in the medical industry as well as within the field of social work often commits mistakes that make implementation of healthcare rules rather weak. This particular factor of the learning process has made me realize how important it is for my part to make sure that the way I am supposed to embrace my responsibility towards the people should be based on care for the people and response to proper operations suggested by the larger institutions that tend to control the situation [which includes the government].
Reaching out to those in need; as this is the primary foundation of social work, I learned from this course that when it comes to medical social work, a person in my position is expected o be enthusiastic and alert especially in relation to how I am able to apply proper leadership to address the needs of the people. There is also the implicative indication of a medical social worker to be observant and insistent when it comes to implementing innovations that would work well to ensure high quality public service provided to the people.
As I go through the different subjects that I am to enroll in within the curriculum of my course, I will use every bit of information I have learned from this subject as a basis of how I understand the overall value of what social work means. Considering that there are other larger organizations and institutions controlling the situation in communities, I learned to do well to utilize their strengths to improve the overall concept of medical social work. Overall, I see that the lessons presented through this subject, along with the activities made to make sure that we are able to grasp what we have been presented with in class; I would say that my experience in this subject gives me a good stepping stone as I continue my studies towards social work. I understand that the lessons learned from this subject shall give me the right competence to take on new heights of learning in the coming years.
