As a behavior technician, I have assisted behavior analysts in implementing skill acquisition and behavior reduction treatment plans for patients who struggle with various behavioral issues like Autism, substance abuse, emotional abuse, physical abuse, and post-traumatic stress disorder. I had ten patients, aged between 40 and 64 years, who were suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts. Early intensive therapy allowed me to have unprecedented access to the lives of many dedicated families that I had ever encountered. The event that impacted me most dealt with a female patient, who distributed violent bursts of violence. What I thought is scary, but insightful in terms of the psychiatrist’s mechanisms to calm the patient down. Skillfully tending to the case gradually reduced the level of violent attacks, to the point that I saw that the intervention is effective.
At each point of treatment or care, patients require personalized attention. I learned that behavior technicians require passionate and dedicated individuals with a desire to mold, teach, and serve. The undertaking enhanced the development of communication and observation skills. The impact achieved while engaging in the task is tremendous. This influenced personal growth and development, increasing my appreciation of my work and gradually seeing the value as the patients’ conditions change. The capacity to influence patients’ health outcomes from prior experience gives an understanding of how proper workmanship in the health sector contributes to the refining of individual skills, leading to the positive development of individual outcomes. Continuous interaction with the patients and psychiatrists contributed to the development of my personal outlook on mental care.
Drug and Alcohol Prevention Volunteer for Underage Drinking on Campuses
When dealing with underage students engaging in drug and alcohol abuse, it hurts knowing how they were destroying their lives slowly. While working as a volunteer, I had the opportunity to interact with college students’ across different institutions, aged between 15 and 17 years, who were disintegrating without their knowledge, following their indulgence in drug and alcohol abuse. The particular meaningful event is encountering a campus student aged 17 struggling’s with addition. Having been influenced by peer pressure, he was finding challenges coping with school. However, he wanted help to come out of the situation, which I guided him throughout my volunteer practice. The volunteer practice was an effective platform for the establishment of the ideal way to handle the individual. While doing this job, I worked closely with other stakeholders such as psychologists to formulate frameworks through surveys administered to help realize change at that level. This provided a first-hand experience that changed my view of alcoholism and drug abuse among young persons.
Working with the victim of drug and alcohol abuse changed my outlook on what makes the underage persons engage in the drinking sprees. The experienced cultured the understanding that peer pressure played a significant role in the manifestations of an addictive habit. The information at my disposal sometimes helped me engage with the victims of underage drinking to establish the ideal problems that they were encountering. The experience shaped the growth and development of communication skills and attitudes suitable to handle other victims positively. In this way, it was possible to put in place measures to deal with drug and alcohol abuse among the underage persons on campuses, realizing significant transformations after that, which remain unmatched. Based on the experience at this level, I developed a sense of zero judgment for young persons on campus engaging in drug and alcohol abuse. This change is critical in appreciating others, even with their flaws. The sentiments emerge from the understanding of the difficult situations they find themselves immersed in unknowingly.
