Microbiology Class, Essay Example

Words: 359

Essay

I have enjoyed every moment of this class and believe that I have learned a lot from it. I intend to work in a pharmaceuticallaboratory, and think that the skills I’ve acquired have a practical use because it is important to understand how to treat people with bacterial infections and understand the drugs that could potentially interact with antibiotics. This course has given me greater knowledge of the microbial aspect of disease, which I will be able to apply to my chosen field. I also believe that this course has provided me with a solid foundation of scientific understanding that I can apply to other courses as well, as my critical thinking and analytical skills have improved.

I enjoyed performing the experiments in this class, because it gave me the opportunity to support the knowledge I learned from the reading material. Furthermore, this experience introduced me to new laboratory equipment, and will allow me to become more familiar with other laboratories in the future. The most challenging aspect of science is to find results that are unknown to others and to be sure that they are correct. Ultimately, we cannot be sure about many things in science, but designing good methodology and repeating experimental trials are good ways to be more confident about the generated data. I would advise future students taking this class to do their work carefully and think about each step of each experiment before doing it.

Overall, I enjoyed working with groups this semester. Quite frankly at the beginning of the semester I didn’t think group work was going to be a success, but it turned out I was wrong. A positive aspect of this is that this class helped me gain confidence about myself and my ability to work in a lab, both alone and with partners. My groups were very helpful and supportive when I had questions. However, a disadvantage of working in groups is that it is difficult to have a productive conversation if one of the group members arrives unprepared. Overall, I had positive experience of working in a group and would be interested in doing so again in all my future classes.
