Based on the case study, the clinician seems interested in having more sessions with Midori’s parents. By engaging the parents more, the clinician will tackle the victim’s case from the source, and hence the parents will be able to handle the issues affecting their daughter.

The therapist’s role would be to assess and address Midori’s situation based on a psychological perspective. The therapist, having a sufficient background on teenage matters, will recognize their victim’s situation and address it effectively.

The process of assessment is likely to bring all the involved entities in place. Such an approach shall include adequate communication with the parents and the teacher to assist Midori.

The target intervention will be addressing issues affecting teenage girls and their relationships with their parents. Some interventions include ensuring that parents have sufficient time with their children away from their busy schedules. There is also the allocation of teacher-student time whereby they can address personal issues.

This model is strength-based because it incorporates all the dynamic personalities regarding teenage psychology. The model brings teachers, students, and parents in a common platform. It ensures that parents do not focus on their schedules at the expense of their parental duties, which involve one-on-one sessions other than just paying school fees.

Based on this approach, the theory of change seeks solutions to problems from their cause and not based on the signs. The solution-focused dimension is one that one may consider applying. This kind of therapy is time-consuming as making decisions is quite tedious and time-demanding. Such criticisms are valid because Midori’s parents are engaged in a lengthy phone call before making a unanimous decision.

Age and Ability in Family and Marriage Therapy

Based on my encounters at Riverbend City as an intern, I learned several things applicable to a family and marriage therapist. I learned the applications of phrases such as ‘what if’ when handling issues of marriage. This phrase enables one to put themselves in one of the partners’ situations and reason efficiently. I learned to focus on the minor issues that affect marriage, and hence it became a personal responsibility to hold myself accountable if I ever fail to handle family and marriage issues effectively.

I learned that multiple family issues arise due to deficiency in giving and taking talking and listening skills relating to communication. Hence, it is essential to overcome fear and face the issues related to sex, money, in-laws, and children. Such a lesson empowered me to advise couples to emphasize healthy communication skills to ensure more intimacy in relationships.
