Military Industrial Complex & Brown V. Board of Education, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 239

Essay

One of the benefits of Military-Industrial Complex is that the policy makers remain up-to-date on the military technology and could take steps to fund the development of such technologies to gain an edge over the country’s military rivals. Military supremacy also helps the nation gain political influence in the world. Another benefit of Military-Industrial Complex is that the weapons industry can quickly respond to any military need in times of crisis or war as happened during the WWII. The cons of the Military-Industrial Complex are that since weapons manufacturers thrive in times of war, they are more likely to persuade policy makers to pursue military action against political rivals as well as prolong on-going wars. Another con is that Military-Industrial Complex attempts to convince the policy makers to fund costly but unnecessary weapons development projects, putting further strains on the budget.

The importance of the Brown v. Board of Education is that the case confirmed that the U.S. constitution doesn’t allow for discrimination on the basis of one’s racial background and all citizens are equal, thus, should have unrestricted access to the same services. This case paved the way for civil rights movement and integration because it sent the message that segregation is unconstitutional and, thus, not tolerable in any form. The court confirmed that separate but equal doctrine cannot guarantee equality, thus, only integration will ensure that all citizens of the U.S. are treated equally and given same rights.
