The strategies espoused by Michael E. Porter and Thomas H. Lee how relevant are they in America’s current healthcare delivery system?

These authors emphasized value as being the goal of health care delivery fix in America. Further, it was advanced that current healthcare delivery systems in America are inappropriate with regards to providing the public with quality health care services. Quality is highly compromised in a business culture of maximizing profits under the guise of improving quality. They also contend that across the world healthcare providers are allowed to offer a wide range of services. However, under managed care strategies providers are contained within a network. The challenge given to health care providers by these analysts is to adapt a value perceptive, which will attack fraud occurring in the system and delivery a fair quality of health care from the premise of valuing the customer’s life as a resource worth preserving (Porter & Lee, 2013).

Issues of fraud and poor quality of health care for minorities are the ones facing health care delivery in 20014. As such, strategies aimed at correcting these irregularities are relevant to fixing this broken healthcare system as the immigration system in America.  Policy makers are cautioned, though to have patience, since these values do not spring up overnight. Like a plant they must be nurtured, allowed to take root and grow. There is no quick fix to this health care dilemma in America.  Precisely, this over reaching strategy is called “value ducing errors, enforcing practice guide- agenda” (Porter & Lee, 2013).  Precisely it requires restructuring health care lines; allowing patients to be better consumers of health care in a fair organized system (Porter & Lee, 2013).

Briefly explain how the value agenda is applicable to fixing this current Healthcare system in America

The current healthcare system in America is the highest costing among developed nations in the region. This is in relation to United Kingdom and Canada. Apart from this factor value judgments are made when patients/clients tender their insurance status for healthcare service. Research has shown that the quality of care received depends on the type of health insurance policy each person has. Importantly, people with no insurance coverage get the poorest quality care. Persons with coverage considered in adequate receive an inadequate value judgments from the onset. Persons with very high quality insurance such as Blue cross/blue shield received optimum care. They get care that is not even necessary in order to be billed (Cox, 2010).

As such, these analysts Porter & Lee (2013) advance six strategies in moving towards a high value healthcare system. They encompass organizing into integrated practice units; measuring outcomes and costs for every patient; moving towards bundled payments for care cycles; integrate care delivery across separate facilities and expanding excellent services geographically (Porter & Lee, 2013). While this is an admirable high-value plan to explain its current applicability is to say with managed care polices. It is not feasible at this time. The bundled payments already exist as a package, but improvement in care quality is not guaranteed. The barrier to expanding excellent services geographically is finance. Health care funding in America is a burden and policy makers will inadvertently allow inequitable distribution of services to continue.
