Poem

PERFECT WOMAN

by: William Wordsworth (1770-1850)

SHE was a phantom of delight

When first she gleam’d upon my sight;

A lovely apparition, sent

To be a moment’s ornament;

Her eyes as stars of twilight fair;

Like twilight’s, too, her dusky hair;

But all things else about her drawn

From May-time and the cheerful dawn;

A dancing shape, an image gay,

To haunt, to startle, and waylay.

I saw her upon nearer view,

A Spirit, yet a Woman too!

Her household motions light and free,

And steps of virgin liberty;

A countenance in which did meet

Sweet records, promises as sweet;

A creature not too bright or good

For human nature’s daily food;

For transient sorrows, simple wiles,

Praise, blame, love, kisses, tears, and smiles.

And now I see with eye serene

The very pulse of the machine;

A being breathing thoughtful breath,

A traveller between life and death;

The reason firm, the temperate will,

Endurance, foresight, strength, and skill;

A perfect Woman, nobly plann’d,

To warn, to comfort, and command;

And yet a Spirit still, and bright

With something of angelic light.

Romantic poem based on the ideology of the poetry:

Images of the Future

As she walks down the country lane

When the sun is saying goodbye from behind the trees

I see her figure resembling my fate:

It is fragile and extremely complete.

She is present, just like my past, and as I see her walk

I remember that all that I am is my virtue and my fault.

The woman’s body is a mystery: she hides all her flaws,

Just like nature protects everything that is weak and false.

Nature is the sunshine, the smile, the one of men’s and women’s

And so I reveal the past miseries that shadow my present.

She walks along just like the Sun to disappear behind the hill

But her goodbye and the Sun’s will stay still

Forever in my heart and beyond

The ghosts of the past and future that’s dawned

When I see the dying Sun and the rejoice of the night,

I see her behind my eyes, her image will enlight

All the scenes I have seen before and all I will see days to come,

The woman walking away and my future I will become.

Time is precious

Time is precious

don’t waste it!
