Modern Nursing Practice, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 482

Essay

Modern nursing practice offers many challenges to professionals in the context of their ability to care for and treat patients effectively, using technologies and devices to improve efficiency and diagnostic capabilities. Nurses must be part of conversations that are designed to facilitate change and improvements in clinical delivery and decision-making, given their use of these systems and their responsibility to ensure that patient wellbeing is optimized at all times (Burkart-Javez, 2014). As a result, it is important to integrate these principles at the doctoral level and to demonstrate the importance of the Essentials of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing at this level (AACN, 2006). Clinical support through technology is necessary in the modern era as a means of expanding knowledge and patient safety, while also considering the impact of these technologies and how they influence the economics, communication, and level of support that patients receive (Cornelius, Childs, & Wilson, 2011).

The example of the Practice Fusion Electronic Health Record System is relevant because the tool is popular and useful to clinicians in support of improving web-based solutions to administer patient care. This tool also provides a means of exploring the different dynamics of the healthcare system and in recording patient data with the intent to improve outcomes and to address the needs of patients in a comprehensive manner (Carr, 2013). The integration of web-based electronic health record systems is vital; however, the type of system that is selected is contingent upon the type of practice under consideration and the overall impact of these tools on a given clinical environment (Glatter, 2015). As a result, evaluating each system and including doctoral-level nurses in the decision-making process is essential to their success in expanding patient care and treatment alternatives, improving quality of care, and in expanding patient safety at a high level. Therefore, the choice of system is not an easy one and requires the input of many experts, including those on the front line and also in leadership positions that support effective change and progress at a high level.
