Essay

The problem of not always using citations or quotation marks when referencing copied sources is a very serious problem. Many students in their research work do not correctly acknowledge other authors language, ideas, information and thoughts. Many disregard or misuse the copied and paraphrased information sources by representing other authors work as their own original work. This concept is known to be immoral and unacceptable in the academic world. After reading and understanding the demonstration of the five steps used by managers in solving problems (Jones and George 448), I gained insight on how to solve the problem of lack of proper citations and quotation marks, which is used by CPS students at NEU when referencing copied and paraphrased information sources. In my case, I would handle the problem by addressing it to the students. I would make sure that each student understood the importance of citing correctly. After making the students aware of the importance, I would teach them how to correctly go about when referencing and eventually practice in class how to do it. By undertaking these measures, students would be in a better position to reference correctly. In addition, I would incorporate severe punishment like deduction of marks for those students who have not correctly referenced.

In reference to the demonstration of how managers solve a problem (Jones and George 448), I would also recommend a teacher to follow several steps so as to eliminate the problem. The first step to take is that of identifying the causes of the problem. Through this, the teacher will know which strategy of the solution to implement. The second step is to find out the spread of the problem that is how many students are involved in the problem. This step will enable the teacher address the problem to the students at an individual ground. For example, he or she may decide to teach in class how to correctly reference. Thirdly, the teacher should develop a strategy, which may use positive and negative reinforcement, punishment or even learning lessons. After this step, the teacher should measure the effectiveness of the strategy by giving students an evaluation test. From here, the teacher will know whether the problem is solved or not from the test.
