Muscle Cars vs Motorcycles, Essay Example

The muscle cars and the motorbikes though they both perform the same function of sports occupy very distinct niches in the automotive world. A motorbike is a two or three-wheeled motor vehicle and there are many varieties depending with the purpose they are designed for (Cotter, 2012). The sports motorcycles are lighter and hence can move in a higher speed compared with those designed for long distance travel. Muscle cars on the other hand are two door sports coupes with potent engines deliberated for high performance driving. The muscle cars are different from other models in that they utilize large and more powerful engines than what it was intentionally designed for (Green, 2008).

Sports muscle cars and motorcycles are both designed from the outset to execute well in speed, braking and management. Both are small and the capacity is either for two or only one person who engages in the sport (Green, 2008). Unlike other types of vehicles, the muscle cars are usually inclined towards a straight-line velocity while the motorbikes are not inclined to a straight line and hence can navigate sharp corners without toppling (Holmstrom & nelson, 2009).The muscle cars often have a lighter weight components where the chassis are so light to reduce their mass. The motorcycles on the other hand do not have any kind of chassis in that most of them are two wheeled with no space for chassis (Woods, 2008).

Both muscle cars and motorcycles almost use the same suspension systems though the motorcycles especially the sports in particular use more sophisticated suspension design for proper handling. The muscle cars on the other hand usually use equal suspicion components like the standard engine cars that are in the same category (Cotter, 2012). The high performance engines of the motorcycles especially designed for sports are located in a lightweight frame. On the other hand, the large displacement engines of muscle cars are located in the lower side of the car to lower the center of gravity as much as possible (Holmstrom & nelson, 2009).

Both uses the same systems of braking where they both utilize the high performance brake pads as well as multi piston systems that clamp on the rotors when handled (Woods, 2008).The braking system in both muscle and motorcycles utilizes the hydraulic system where they both uses break fluids. In both, braking is accurate and is given great concern due to high-speed mechanisms. They are both durable because of advance suspension systems they use since stability is of great concern in both (Green, 2008).

The front and rare tires of the sport motorcycles are larger than those of other types because cornering is considered during design to house high lean angles. On the other hand, the muscle cars uses four tires and all of them are of the same size because they are stable in cornering hence toppling is not of great concern to the designers. Also in design, the sport bikes might or might not have fairing while on the other hand fairing is necessary with the muscle vehicles (Cotter, 2012).

In conclusion, the muscle vehicles and the motorcycles have both similarities and differences. They share the same characteristics in terms of suspension but the sizes of the engines are different with muscle cars having larger engines than sport bikes. Although both uses tires, the motorcycles uses two tires while the muscle cars uses four and toppling is of great concern with a motorcycle than in muscle vehicles (Woods, 2008).
