My Contribution in the Business Game, Essay Example

Essay

Business is a risky game and calls for teamwork to pull forces together and form a strong enterprise (Fernández & Dolores 2012). While one may have the best skills and qualities to form a sole proprietor, the difference only realized upon the first meeting. Here, every team member gives useful ideas, which initially could not have popped into one’s mind.  In the first meeting, for example, it came into realization that different members were comfortable holding certain positions. TM1 was absent, but the other team members felt she could best serve as a Human Resource and Finance Personnel.  TM2 assigned the role of a finance director, TM3 became the marketing director, and TM4 the sales director. It then funnily arose that no one was ready to become the president of the company. I readily accepted the role as there was no other better candidate anyway.

As if it were predetermined, there was no one who had prepared for the activities in quarter one apart from me. I bravely took the role of presenting suggestions for a business name, and the team agreed on one of the suggestions. Still on the first meeting, we decide on a consensus without agendas for strategic decision, where the specialists would make final tactic decisions. Again, I firmly took the role of a president and emailed everyone including TM1. I passed the information on what we discussed in quarter 1, what to prepare for quarter 2 as I informed TM1 of the roles and responsibilities designated to her.

I must acknowledge the absolute teamwork employed in quarter 2 of the business game agenda. We were to evaluate business opportunities, set up operations and do the market research. The finance director was readily available to provide the cash necessary for setting up a shop after the traveler market (Glotech Air) and Workhorse (Glotech Bold). There was a liaison in the decision of the mission statement of the business, to be a “Reliable, fast, easy to use and transport; high quality at affordable prices PCs and laptops”. All the team members contributed largely in making decisions about the market research. In fact, after successful completion of the second quarter, it was amazing that there was still some cash left aside. Either the cash to use for opening web-based sales or rather deposited into some deposit account to earn some interest. A unison discussion preferred the later decision where the money deposited into a deposit account. The proactive decision-making, collaborative workforce and timely manner turn-up encouraged me as president.

The next stage involved the entrance into the market. The company was to set test strategies and market assumptions where the team members agreed on offering a handsome compensation package to the staff to motivate them. The company employed advertisement strategies, set brand prices, hired more staff to expand the sales force. The final strategy in the 3rd quarter marked with the establishment of demand for the business’s market segment while setting the production schedule.

With all due respect, it is always wise to evaluate the performance of anything invested on after some time. The evaluation enables one to identify areas of weakness and the necessary improvement required. It could be wise to evaluate the market demand, customer opinion, and competition tactics and sales forces. The next item to monitor is the production and manufacturing approach. Upon carrying out a comprehensive evaluation research, it so impressed that our team marked the leading market share. This further motivated the team members. We had a reliable and constant cash flow, which enhanced the opening of two new offices in Berlin and Los Angeles. Further salary increment to the staff motivated their workforce even more.

Despite the illness that occurred to TM2, everything in the business ran out smoothly. TM1 was able to handle the financial role perfectly. The business flourished and stands as the market share leader. As president, I spend a lot of time in the factory to play with its simulation and figure out the best mix to replenish target points and determining the right mix of scheduled capacity. I do not mind the larger contribution in terms of time as compared to the other team members as what I care about is the output. The replenished, expanded and stable business is my joy. The united team members who would challenge my decisions, as the $8 million loan I suggested, impress me. The suggested expansion strategies and profitability maximization strategies of team members just make my role as a president enjoyable and worthy.

Upon reflecting on all that I had contributed to the team of the business game, am proud of it all. I did what I could to my level best.  At first, and especially in the first quarter meeting, the team members not prepared, and were it not for my contribution; it could have marked a bad beginning. The second meeting had team members psyched up and evaluation of the market opportunities done promptly.  Subsequent meetings bore best results that hold this esteemed business. I am proud of my contributions and bow down for all support from team members.
