My Highlights, Essay Example

Essay

The skills that I have that I feel make me a great teammate is my thoroughness, tenacity, and my focus. I think that these three characteristics are needed in order to complete any project. I make my strongest effort to ensure that any projects that are assigned to me in a team are done on time and done to the group’s satisfaction. I find that this may be hard to achieve without proper leadership so I do recognize that one of my weaknesses is that I’m not a great leader. This, however, does not mean I’m not a great teammate. On the contrary, while teams may find it helpful to have a leader (some go the other route and have a democracy), I think this makes me more of an asset because I’m not looking to push my own agenda, I’m just looking for someone strong to follow. I am great at supporting a leader and am great at taking direction. This skill may come in handy with my other teammates as well since I aim to make a great project.

I stick with a project no matter the constraints. While this may be a negative thing for my personal life, it is a positive thing for my teammembers as they know I will do anything in order to get the project done. This also leads in to my focus skill: I will stay focused on the issue at hand. One problem I do find that I have is that while I can maintain a strong focus on something, this does, however, mean that I can only stay focused on one thing at a time. Therefore I cannot multi-task very well. I might be able to learn to multi-task better but for right now I thought I’d be forthright and say that I can only do so much at one time, and I have to finish one thing I start before starting on another thing. As long as my team is aware of this, and can bend or accommodate to this (meaning don’t give me a bunch of small projects because I will go through them one by one instead of in a little bit of each one at a time).
