My Major Is Business Economics, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 327

Essay

My major is business economics. As a major, business economics deals with microeconomic and macroeconomic factor as well as concepts that affect businesses across the world. My aim is to continue exploring this field of study to a level where I will be able to work in multinational business corporations and rise to decision making levels. In particular, World Bank happens to be my dream working place where I intend to join the world economic department and fully participate in aligning world’s economic issues.

Issues arising from global warming are likely to affect my area of study in several ways. For instance, the world’s agricultural sector as a major contributor to the world economy is likely to be affected by drastic changes in temperatures (green house effect). As seen in the green effect paper by Schelling, the developing countries are likely to be the most affected. Their economy is likely to be negatively affected as they rely on agriculture for food and other economic gains. Tourism, forestry and recreational facilities which form part of the economy will also be affected. Rise in temperature will likely scare away tourists and this will destabilize the economy of such areas. Human health will also be affected and this will cause economic stress on healthcare systems for social and economic support. The damages that will be caused to infrastructure damage by extreme weather will also pose great economic instability. Roads and bridges are likely to be the most affected and their repair and maintenance will destabilize the economy.

The World Bank, for instance and the IMF are likely to alter their plans and direct most of resources available to the poor and developing countries that have been predicted to be the most affected. All these touches on my field of practice and I will be glad to be part of the team that puts in place strategies to alleviate such business economic issues that are likely to rise from the green house effect.
