My Motivators Into the Nursing Career, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 578

Essay

Nursing is a noble career which is more of a calling than interest. It entails a lot of dedication and sacrifice in order to pursue it and many people may be incapacitated or not willing to do so. However, like other careers, there are some motivators that may drive an individual into pursuing the nursing career. In this paper, I specifically analyze factors which motivate me into pursuing nursing at the University of Pennsylvania. It is my assumption that motivators are different and what motivates me might not necessarily motivate another individual.

My main motivator into pursuing nursing is the burning desire to help others especially the ailing. Having grown up seeing my grandmother suffering and struggling with renal disease, I particularly developed the desire for nursing. My grandmother was relying heavily on a dialysis machine and a certain health worker frequently visited her for some therapeutic treatment. I valued this gesture and saw humanity in it. Since then the flame for desiring to pursue nursing career got ignited and it has never died down. I particularly pity many people who suffer and ail at home due to lack of funds to attend good health facilities. Tears flow my eyes especially when I realize that a little concern to these people can greatly change their life giving them a new beginning. My greatest desire therefore is to pursue the nursing career in order to be equipped with the necessary skills for fulfilling my lifetime desire of helping the ailing disadvantaged people.

Another aspect that interests me in the nursing career is the sense of responsibility and challenge associated with it. Nurses deal with human life and there are no chances for errors. Unlike lawyers who can argue out their mistakes, mistakes from a nurse can be very disastrous. This sensitivity of the profession particularly interests me since I know am cautious enough and I can impact the life of the patients able to serve. I like challenges in my life and overcoming one successfully motivates me a lot. The nursing career is full of challenges and visible results attracting me further into pursuing it.

Nursing is a global career. A qualified nurse in one region can perform satisfactorily in any other region of the world. This gives the career a wide scope of job opportunities particularly in developing worlds where nursing professionals are few. In particular this motivates me since I know there is a huge potential in the job market for the nursing career. At least I get assurance for a well paying job. Moreover, there is a lot of potential in the developing world for job satisfaction and motivation.

The reward for labor is salary or wage. Salaries and wages motivate employees to work harder and efficiently. Although the nursing career does not pay the best salary package in the world, I believe the current package is adequate to motivate me. I am not out to make money but to offer services. However, I shall require some for sustenance and the average salary package for nurses I believe is enough for me.

Nursing career is sensitive and all people cannot fit in it. It calls for a lot of dedication and sacrifice and many people cannot attain them. There are many things which can motivate an individual into pursuing the nursing career but I am specifically motivated by its aspects of caring, responsibility, better job opportunities, and reasonable salary package. I believe that I am a nurse by calling and interest.
