My Semester Experience as a Student at BRCC, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 556

Essay

Being in college requires me to see myself in a new light because I am regularly posed with new challenges that I must cope with in unique ways. Prior to beginning my career at BRCC, I would use my life experiences to solve my problems. Now, I am able to integrate my previous experiences with the knowledge I’ve gained from my psychology and computers courses to make better choices. Overall, I believe that college has allowed me to see myself as a more intelligent individual that is more ready to solve the problems that I encounter.

During this semester, I learned several important things about myself. First, I am not a quitter. The fact that I have been able to continue my work this quarter despite becoming sick with viral meningitis and encountering problems with my diabetes has demonstrated that I am newly motivated to finish college. My old self would not have been able to do this, as I did not complete college during my first attempt in the early 90s. I believe that this newfound motivation will allow me to continue to succeed at school and at my future job as a medical office worker.

While I believe that I have already bettered myself this semester, I believe that I could become a better person and employee by studying more to gain more knowledge from my classes. I am very proud of myself because I passed all of my courses, but I believe that I could have learned more from them if I had spent more time studying. As a result, much of the information that these courses present relate directly to the work that I will be doing after I graduate. Therefore, it is important for me to put more time aside to absorb this material. The discipline that will allow me to study effectively will also make me a better employee because this will help me get through difficult tasks that I am faced with in the workplace.

To be successful in the workplace, it will be important for me to keep the level of motivation I have achieved from being in school. However, it is important for this education to grow in a manner that will allow me to learn all that there is to know about the medical office so that I could be an excellent help to my future employer. Furthermore, I think that it will be helpful for me to improve my communication skills because it is important for me to be able to talk to both patients and my coworkers in the medical office setting.

By becoming a medical office worker, I am hoping to have a positive effect on my family, friends, community, and workplace. I wish to act as a model to others to show them that despite encountering hard times, they can also get their degree and work the job of their choice. In addition, I want to support my family and friends in achieving these same goals and inspiring them to take risks so that they can succeed. I want to positively impact my workplace by being the best worker I can be and by using my own life experiences to help optimize their current practices. Overall, I believe that if I aim to provide help to others, those around me will benefit in the long run.
