Essay

My name is Sam I was born on one rainy tobacco harvesting day in the year 1810 in the state of South Hampton Virginia, my father and mother both slaves to a tobacco plantation owned by a wealthy family in these southern parts. We lived in a small shanty with the rest of the slaves and the house leaked and smelled foul because we also cohabited with the family pet Luther the pig. Apart from the common measles and flu that were rampant in this part, the lord almighty was a blessing to me because I never got to be sick prior to this inhumane living condition.

I had no formal education as the slave did not qualify for such luxuries, but my father who was assigned to the records keeping of the stores, knew simple mathematics which prove very helpful lesson in the evening. My youth life was mostly accustomed to hard labor and beating from the cruel overseers who called me lazy bone and the blackest Negros he had ever seen. As my adolescent life progressed I inherited a dark chocolate complexion from my mother and 6’2” tall well bodied athletic body that was favored by all the girls in the household of all the slaves and even the ladies from our master’s quarter would occasional drool and compliment arrogantly.

My dad was accidentally shot one summer morning as one mulatto tried to steal from a visiting guest of the master, ten shot were fired at the escaping Mulatto whose head was riddled with seven bullets, however some missed him and lodged in the rib cage of my father who was in the direct direction which the escapee was heading, unfortunately later that night my father hemorrhaged to death due to lack of medical attention. The daughter of this Mulatto (molly) would later be my wife as fate has it.

When I was 21 years old well build weighing 230 pounds and married to molly my Bessie attractive Mulatto wife, the lord blessed us with three children aged at 3, 5 and 7 a girl the youngest and two boys. This time I was working as a field hand and was constantly at logger heads with William the ruthless one sighted overseer who hated my guts and did not spare the rod on me. Molly was a maid servant in the household of our master

At the end of the fall, I mustered the courage and took my family with me and run to the north where my cousin took me in, and I stayed in their small farm for a year till I found myself a job at a local mechanic store. My first normal and free waged job have been with Davies auto recovery to the moment, my children have had decent education and now am free man to walk around the streets as am a respected mechanic in this part.
