Myth of Left and Right Economics, Essay Example

Introduction

The myth of left and right is a myth which has been self perpetuating in the United States of America (Ann, 2010). The myth assumes that politics can be represented by a line which is horizontal running from the right to the left. The two; right and left represent the two poles of the hemispheres and therefore represent the origin of the idea. It is a myth very well the interests of those who are resistant to both the social and economic justice very well. The centre of the line between the left and right points represents the society which perpetuates justice, carried out by the media and also by the politicians with the moderation of the left and the right wings’ ideas, consisting of some neo-liberalization and some conservativeness, which balances to avoid a situation where the norms of the American society are upset. It’s more reasonable, rational and more responsible than the ideas of both the right and the right wing. The two groups represent ideas and a person can have an idea of the left wing and next time has the idea of the right wing (Ann, 2010).

The left wing represents the social justice, equity of all people, and the taking care of all the human rights which includes the right to have shelter, right to have food, right to have good work, right to good health care and other basic human rights. It also includes the rights against discrimination, the right to peace and economic equality. The left wing myth advocates for the striving of any human descendant without any problem, receiving all the basic human rights in a society which is governed by social justice. The left wing advocates for equality in the world, no discrimination of people regardless of their political affiliation, social status, race or even tribe. As a result, the right wing advocates for the coexistence of the people in Harmon without wars and conflicts. Also, according to the left wing, all people no matter what they do are supposed to receive their basic needs and it is the work of the governments to ensure that the all the people have all their basic needs as part of providing them with their basic human rights (Nelson, 2005).

The centre between the left and the right wing is the representative of the moderation between the two ideologies. It represents those who are moderate and not fully in the side of right or left. It is a point at which the ideas of both the right and the left wing are merged to give a better myth. These are the people who are moderate representing the current situation in the United States of America. These people do not believe in a pure social justice society and not on a pure capitalist society but rather a point in between the two myths.The right wing represents the extremists who believe that the society should be run on an individual basis and that there should be no provision of basic services to people. According to this myth, everyone is on his or her own and he or she should struggle so as to survive. There are no issues of social justice. The society represents a free situation in which the members are allowed to struggle for themselves and ensure that they survive. In this case, the people of the society are provided by equal opportunities but they have to struggle to use the opportunities which will help them in getting the basic wants. This is the myth of capitalism and the society where everyone works hard for himself or herself.

Impact of the Myth on the Economy of America

The myth represents two sides of the thinking of the Americans in political and economic issues. As mentioned above, the right and left wing myth is a myth of ideas, which represent two opposite points of view. The myth therefore is a school of thought. At times, an individual can have ideas which can be termed as for the left wing while in other times; the person can have ideas which are termed as right wing. These ideas basically affect how the economy will run. Therefore, the left and the right wing ideas cannot be separated from the economic issues of the United States of the United States of America (Zainab, 2007).

The Right Wing

This wing represents those ideas which are capitalistic in nature. In this body of ideas, the government has very little role in the provision of services to the citizens. It is not the responsibility of government to ensure that all the people get the basic wants. Therefore, the people have to struggle to access their basic wants. It is this idea which postulates that all people are supposed to be involved in the process of working. According to the myth, those who work hard are rewarded accordingly by acquiring more while those who do not work hard are not rewarded anything and live a life of lacking some very important needs. The government cannot come in between to help such people since each of the people are supposed to ensure that they struggle for themselves.

This myth has some positive impact on the economy. It makes the people to work hard as they know their work will be rewarded. As a result, the people become motivated to work hard. They struggle in their duties in order to receive more at the end of the day. The society is guided by hard work and those who do not work hard are not appreciated by the society. According to the right wing, the people who have no basic needs or who are lacking something are lacking because they have not worked or because of their laziness and therefore do not deserve to be rewarded for their laziness (Charles, 2001). Therefore, the society should not be forced to provide for then but should rather provide them with the opportunities for them to work and provide for their needs. The spirit of reward guides the society.

In the right wing there is competition. The competition is as a result of various people and groups working hard to be the best and therefore be rewarded more. The competition plays a very important role in the growth of economy. This is because the people are able to work very hard in order to become the best. There will be an increase in production and more will be realized. People are not forced to work but are motivated by the gains so the people do not need any type of supervision from the heads and hence will have less problems (Ambrose, 2003). The will be more factories, more labor and people will be willing to offer their services in return for payment.

According to this group, the more a person works, the more the reward. All people are not equal in the society and the ability of a person to work hard determines his position in the society. Those who work hard become rich, are able to provide for themselves and therefore can be able to provide all the needs they have. The idea is that a person should not depend on another person but must look for the ways in which he or she will provide for himself. There is less concern about social justice, less concern about the peace and such basic human rights. A person who does wrong should be punished and there should be no pardon of an individual who is making another loses some of the rewards which he or she has gained from his or her hard work. No person should benefit from the hard work of another individual (Ambrose, 2003).

The use of the ideas of the left wing is very important if a society wants to increase its production. The myth will encourage people not to sit down and wait for the authorities to provide for them. People will start businesses which will then compliment each other. A person will be able to get what he or she wants since there are people involved in a lot of activities for the benefit of the society. There will be plenty of goods and services as everyone struggles to produce what he or she can produce best. This will lead to specialization and division of labor. Every person in the society decides on what they should do. Therefore the possibility of doing what a person wants is very high.

The people in the society are not forced to do jobs or various activities. They are guided by their conscience to do something rather than being forced to undertake something. This means that the people will be motivated to work hard and therefore produce some good products. This is as opposed to a situation where the people are forced to do something in which they will fell that they are doing something for the sake of being seen. This has a negative impact on what the product will be since the driving factor in such a person will be being seen that he is performing a job.

This group of ideas has the disadvantage that the organization has very little place for morals. The people are self centered and they care about what they think will increase their incomes. People are driven by the desire to progress in terms of wealth and power without caring what the impact of their actions will be on other people. This can therefore create a very big gap between the rich and the poor. Since those who have the money own the means of production, they will continue being rich while those who have no money will not be able to get resources which they can use in making money and providing for themselves. These will result in a situation where the people in the society are classified into two groups, one of the groups consisting of men and ladies who are very rich while the other group consisting of people who are very poor. This is a potential problem because it can lead to increase in the criminal activities in the society. Some people will have a lot of property, will provide for themselves and will be having all what they want while other people will have no basic wants and have no means of getting the basic wants. This will make them to turn into immoral activities like theft and prostitution in an effort to get the basic needs.

In the right wing myth, there is likelihood of some members of the society being forgotten by the rest of the society since no one will care about the people. The government is not involved in the provision of basic wants but it just facilitates their acquisition by the people. The result is that the people will not be cared for by anyone. This means those who are born poor will die poor because there is no way of breaking from that York of poverty. There are few chances which an individual can use to change his life and be rich. The problem with these ideas is that those who have been poor from the begging are not able to break themselves from their poverty and will have to struggle more than their counterparts who are reach to acquire the basic needs.

In the beginning of the system, all the people have an equal chance to survive. With the difference in the amount of work that people do, some in the society become wealthier than others in the society. This will make them own the methods of production in the society. They will then employ the other people who cannot afford the means of production. They have enough capital to start their own businesses. Then they will be the ones to decide the pay for the other people. This will lead in to a second situation where the people who are in the society have a difference in the reward for their hard work. Those who own the methods and means of production will not work very hard but they will be rewarded most while those who are employed by the owners of the means of production will work very hard but will be rewarded less. The result will be un-proportionate rewarding of people. There will be increase in the wealth of the owners of the means of production and those who have capital while those without the capital will not be able to progress or increase their wealth, instead they will become poorer (Lawrence, 2007).

Therefore, the right wing is more concerned about an individual and not the society. In encourages the spirit of business in an individual and does not consider the effect of the action of others to the rest of the members of the society. The people are allowed to do all what they can do as long as they do not affect the rights of the rest of the people as stipulated by the constitution. There will be increase in the number of businesses, the business men will price their products as they wish since there will be no one to dictate them on the prices of their goods and services. It will be a free society in which the forces of demand and supply dominate the market and the business allowed to run its course without the interference from the government. This creates a very smooth environment for the business and therefore there is growth of a lot of businesses, increase in the production in the society and increase in the profits for those who are doing business. There will also be a lot of competition due to the failure of the government to regulate business and hence the society will get goods and services at the best possible prices.

The Left Wing

The left wing is another myth which consists of a belief that all the people in the society are equal and are entitled to provision of basic wants. According to the myth, the people are supposed to be provided for since it is their right to have basic needs. As a result, the government and the society must embark on a program which will ensure that all the people in the society access education, have basic wants like food, shelter and clothing, they get sufficient and quality health care and they have peaceful environment. In this regard, the society can be termed as a society embracing the culture of social justice.

The people regardless of the struggle they make in the activities they perform are the same. There is no discrimination against people on the basis of whether they work hard or they are not hard working. The society appreciates all the people and provides for them. In this type of society, there is free health care, there is free education, and there is free food and accommodation all which are provided for by the society or by the government. This will make it not possible to have some people in the society being very rich while others are poor. The difference between the people in terms of wealth is very small and the gap between the rich and the poor noticed in those living in capitalist society is very small or even insignificant (Clay, 2007).

In this type of society, people do not work hard because they are motivated from within to work hard. They work hard as a result from pressure from the government son that they will be provided for by it. The government ensures that the society produces enough resources for it to survive. It coordinates all the functions of the society and ensures that every person works hard. The benefits of working hard will go to the government and then the government will use those benefits to provide the essential services to the whole community. The hard work of an individual is not recognized by the society and all what a person does is for the benefit of his or her society. The pressure is not from within but from outside.

In this case, people are less motivated to work hard. The people feel that their sweat is not for themselves but for the society. The people will therefore not be willing to work very hard since they will not gain directly from what they are doing. There will be less innovation of new ideas and the society will only perform certain duties and tasks so that they are just seen that they are doing something. This will make it hard for the society to progress (Janerose, 2006).

The spirit of competition among the people is diminished and there are less people who are willing to venture into business. The society will therefore not have the essential services since there will be no enough businesses in it. People will be feeling that the struggle they make will benefit those who are just relaxing. This makes them to feel bored to perform certain tasks in the society. The will to work as hard as possible seen in the capitalists societies is not there and people will only perform specific tasks because they are being forced to perform them.

This type of society ensures that there are no people in the society who are suffering because of the lack of the essential services. The society will treat all the people as equal, and therefore will ensure that the people receive the basics of living. There will be the provision of food, shelter, clothing, health and education by the government or the society. There will be no people who will feel that they are not part of the community and that there are no people who will be suffering in the society while others are enjoying themselves.

In these societies, there is less motivation of the people to engage in criminal activities since they are satisfied with what they are given. The government will full provide for them and there will be no point of a person engaging in activities of theft or even prostitution. These activities are usually common in places where the society is biased against or for some people in which some people view themselves as being the disadvantaged and not being able to have enough resources to fulfill their needs. This is what gives birth to issues like theft and prostitution, among other evils.

The Moderate wing

This is the view which is advanced by the politicians and the moderate people, who are not belonging to the extremist sides. They encourage for hard work and rewarding of the people who work hard. In addition, they also advocate for a society which is somehow fair in its activities, which does not allow some people to suffer from the lack of basic wants. As a result, there is some fund which is spent on the provision of essential services to those who are unable to provide for themselves. It is this type of thinking which has brought about the issues of taxation in which there will be a way of rewarding a person according to the amount of effort he has put in his work and then at the same time consider those who are not able to provide for themselves. As a result, there will be the creation of a society in which the people are encouraged and motivated to work hard but they are not forced to do so. In addition, those who have not been able to get enough of their needs by working hard are helped by the government.

In this case, there are people who are very rich but the people who are poor and cannot afford basic service are not there. The gap between the rich and the poor in such societies is not as big as the right wing. There are businesses and people are motivated to do a lot of business, creating competition which increases the quality of services which are provided to the society. This makes it easy for the organization to access the essential services since they are provided by the businesses operating in that locality (Sheila, 2010).

Conclusion

The above is just a myth and the people of the United States do not hold on just one. A person can have two ideas which are representing both of the wings. A person is not like he makes all the decisions based on the right or the left wing but rather makes decisions which can be considered as the right or the left wing. Both of these have their own advantages and disadvantages. The best model will be the midway of the left and right wing in which there is a merger of the benefits of the right wing and those of the left wing advantages to form a society which is hardworking and also fair and just without people who are suffering while others are very rich.
