Neo–colonialism is the mirror of the last stages of latter time imperialism. At present, the past principles of neo-colonialism could not be applied in the living systems of different states and nations today. At present, colonialism implies more on the condition of being independent from the condition of being of the larger states. Instead of territory, neo-colonialism is more defined to be directed through money and economic status. The imposition of banking systems that would intend to enrich the condition of governance that is imposed in a particular political region. Basically, the drive is more concentrated on economic advancement and the politics that feeds it.
Exploitation is a basic condition that the nations become subjected to. Relatively, when they become exploited, they become exposed to the possibilities of being fully controlled by other larger and economically stronger nations. This is the reason why several regions in South Africa are being fully controlled including their resources alongside the human resources that the nation holds. Patterned from the ideals of the Cold War, the current system of neo-colonialism pushes forward for the indication of power over the nations with lesser capacity of fighting for their military rights and their system of governance.
Post-war period showed how strong nations such as the United States and the regions of USSR were able to gain control over the weaker states and nations surrounding them. Knowing how they are to be considerably recognized as the superpowers, the said nations have had the chance to manipulate the system of governance that other countries under their command are to take into consideration. This way, both nations would be able to relatively manipulate the resources of the countries they are allied with. Relating the power and the control they have over the smaller and weaker nations, these two nations have become the source of decision on how economy around the globe is dictated upon.
Basically, neo-colonialism has created a form of new indication of a system that oppresses the weaker members of the society. The masters of this system become the ‘lords’ of the new world. They do not only control the systems of economy and governance, but instead, they control almost the overall system of living that the nations are under. Notably, this condition around the globe is an obvious situation that is bringing upon huge changes in connection with the relationship that nations share in an international aspect. What makes neo-colonialism a system of governance as it is, is the fact that it empowers the larger powers to gain more control and more access to the resources of nations having less control of whatever they have especially in terms of economic and political operations. The separation of the first, second and the developing countries from all the different areas of the world specifically show such indication of power control. The lower the scale of recognition the nation belongs to, the more relatively vulnerable they become especially when it comes to measuring their capacity to stand-alone. In faces of civil as well as international conflicts, the larger powers of the colonial system become more insistent in supposedly ‘helping out’, however, in relation to the principles of neo-colonialism, modern imperialism suggests that every single ‘help’ they provide would increase their capacity to retrieve values from the said nations later on when they take more stable situations. What makes modern colonialism a specific system of governance that the world recognizes today is the fact that it makes a strong impact on how the division of nations becomes obvious and effective in directing advancement, development and conditional governance in different regions of the world.
