New Issues in TLM, Essay Example

Essay

Two major concerns that continue to appear within the transportation and logistics field include the use of technology and the optimization of shipping routes (Robinson, 2013). Both of these recent concerns are related because technology can be used to determine the most cost effective ways for goods to travel. However, due to the existence of technology, the transportation and logistics field has become more complex due to the ability to optimize these practices. Workers must understand how to compare the costs of different shipping methods over distances, and determine which countries or local warehouses to collaborate with for product storage. The combinations possible are virtually endless, yet it is the responsibility of the logistics team to determine how this transportation can occur the most efficiently and in the least expensive manner.

Due to the existence of these practice changes, workers in the field need to receive specialized knowledge that pertains to operation of this new technology and software in addition to mathematical skills that will help them use it effectively (Page, 2015). This is challenging because the field is rapidly evolving and the specific software and skills needed are constantly growing more complex. Therefore, the individuals hired to perform these types of calculations must learn to instantly adapt to these new methods and be willing to understand them quickly.

Currently, my project has progressed significantly and I plan to include a variety of charts and graphs in my report to demonstrate the data that I have found. Graphical evidence appears to be the best way to compile and interpret the data that I have gathered from my research and I believe that using them will support the utility of my findings.
