No Child Falls Behind, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 266

Essay

I believe that every child has a potential. The key is to find a child’s strengths and develop them. Just as different children have different strengths, they may also differ in their learning styles. Some children respond well to traditional teaching methods such as reading and class instruction while others prefer visual teaching tools and interactive methods. From my readings, I have discovered a new teaching style which may be called ‘Differentiated Teaching”. This method allows a teacher to employ different teaching methods in the same class so that every student has a chance to maximize his/her learning. Sometimes when students struggle, it may not be that they are not putting as much effort as their class mates but instead the traditional teaching methods do not suit their learning styles well. In addition, teachers can also improve students’ performances by identifying main weaknesses of those lagging behind and giving them extra help in after-school hours to catch up with the rest of the class.

I am very confident of my ability to close the achievement gap in my classroom because I will be passionate about my students and will encourage them to come to me with any problem they may have. I will take measures to understand my students as well as their strengths and weaknesses. I will also not hesitate to spend extra efforts on students who may be struggling and will work closely with their parents to figure out ways to improve the students’ performances. I will also make sure to commend my students even on slight performance improvements to boost their morale and self-confidence.
