Some Challenges Facing Nokia in Global Environment
Nokia, as a household cell phone brand, faces some global environmental challenges: the main ones being the concerns about the chemical composition of the cell phones and the problem of discard the electronic waste. Not only Nokia has been affected by these important issues, but the company has taken crucial steps to address the issues in a way that has earned a great public recognition.
Three Environmental Forces Confronting Nokia
This condition occurs because there are forces in the global general environment that require that Nokia comply with all the international regulations that would save our earth, protect people’s health and protect the ecosystem. These three environmental forces are unchangeable, and they exert serious pressures on Nokia’s activities as a cell phone manufacturer.
Some Global Environmental Tasks against Nokia
As a result of these forces, Nokia is subjected to constant global tasks of demonstrating enough readiness to exhibit some social responsibility and environmental sustainability. Nokia is expected to show to the whole world that it cares about the social development of people by offering programs that would help people to fully develop themselves and their societies. In the area of environmental sustainability, Nokia should demonstrate its adherence to the values of environment and map out strategies to save the earth by not using poisonous chemicals to produce its phones and work out the best ways to dispose off its electronic wastes.
Benefits and Threats to Nokia’s Growth
The growth of Nokia, as a phone company, has two main benefits: it provides employment to the people and helps in the telephony industry by making it possible for people to communicate with one another. Through Nokia, relationship may have been improved and the standards of family lives would have become better. But Nokia faces two major threats to its growth: (i) the serious demand for producing environmentally friendly phones, which may not be cost-efficient; (ii) stiff competition from rival phone companies. Nokia would have to spend a lot to market its products against the competition from other phone companies that have invaded all the markets where Nokia had reigned before—the European markets.
Important Steps to Increase Nokia’s Market Share
Some of the ways Nokia can increase its share of the market is to engage in: (i) strategic marketing—which includes selling the good points about its products; for example, telling the customers how environmentally friendly the phones are, and how easy they could be discarded off without actually causing any environmental hazards; (ii) Transform the usefulness of the phones—that is, increasing the functions of the phones so that they could outrival other phones in the market; (iii) participation in all social and environmental activities—this action would give Nokia a good image in the eyes of the buyers, who would feel that the company is doing much to save our earth and societies.
If all the facts described above are critically considered, it is possible for Nokia to outperform other competitors in the cell phone industries. And now that many cell phone companies are out there, it is advisable for Nokia to quickly adopt these strategies.
