Essay

Novel and movies have a unique way of creating reality using descriptive words or motion pictures. We are able to perceive what we read or watch as reality due to the biological function with in our bodies which come in to play when we are engrossed in the movie or novel.

When a person reads a suspense novel, he or she perceives what written via the eye- a sensory organ that perceives light. The writings on the novels pages are easily perceived by the eye because they are of a different color from that of the pages i.e. the pages are white and the words are black. The light is taken in through the pupil and the image is picked up by the retina and sent to the brain via the optic nerve.

In the brain information is encoded by the memory where by the images sent to the brain via the optic nerve are process and interpreted. As the viewer watches the movie or reader reads a novel, the events that are watched or read are stored in short term memory of the brain to facilitate quick recovery so the reader can relate subsequent events and past events in order to understand the novel or novel

The procedural memory also comes into play and the reader is able to place the scenes or events into the rightful sequence.  This facilitates the understanding of the story and creating suspense as the reader anticipates what is to happen next.

As the reader reads on, he or she my fell sympathetic, sad, happy and so on. The is basically brought about by the episodic memory as the reader relates events and places. For instance when reading about event preceding the rushing of an accident victim to the hospital the reader feels sad and anxious about the likely death of the victim.

After watching a movie or reading a novel, the events or occurrences that take place are stored in the long term memory so that the watcher or viewer can recall the on a later date and reflect on them.  The sensory memory facilitates this process. The images from the movie or words from the novel are kept within the sensory memory and can be recalled as clearly as the originals were. However, after along time, the reader or viewer may not be able to remember what he or she read or watched. In such a case, the subject is said to have forgotten what he or she read or watched. When one is in a state of dependant memory, the remembrance of what they watch may be affected in various ways. Some people may be able to remember every thing while some may need to be in the same state in order to remember anything. Still, some may not be able to remember any thing at all even when exposed to the same state.  Other factors may also play a critical role in influence in which the brain. Such factors include amnesia condition in which victims forgets everything or most of what they ever new.

This biological function helps readers and viewers to make the most out the movies that they watch and the novels they read. They also influence the understanding of the topics or issues being portrayed in the text or video.
