Living standards between modern day communities and what was available to European nobles during feudalism times have as many similarities as they do differences. The technological invention of electricity, indoor plumbing and medical discoveries would account for the majority of the standard of living differences.

Much like today, the standard of living in the feudal times was dictated by wealth, power, and status. The wealthy nobles lived in the castles, while the poor lived in the surrounding areas. Similarly today the wealthy live in mansions and wealthy neighborhoods and the poor class lives in government housing areas and slum areas. The nobles had access to higher education the poor had to work the land and be servant to the nobles. Another similarity was the “baths’ that Romans frequented regularly, these “baths can be compared to gyms today. (The Roman Empire. WEB)

Around 1000ad life in the Roman Empire and Europe shared a lot of similarities and differences too. In both societies the man was the ruler of the home and the female was under his rule.

Unlike Rome the majority of Europe at this time was still pagan. Rome introduced Christianity to Europe which in turn had a calming effect on Europe allowing for a more stable political government. Lifestyles in both Rome and Europe revolved around family and beliefs with the Church being the primary source of education, laws. (Guisepi)
