Nurses From Countries, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 296

Essay

There are times when America is a country with a shortage of nurses; however, it is likely that this problem is more widespread in other countries. Personally, I do not think that nurses in countries where there are nursing shortages should be discouraged from migrating to practice nursing in another country. This is because every person should have a right to pursue their own interests that relate to their skills, and people should also have a right to live where they want to live. I think that a country could have incentives to attract nurses from other countries, if they need to. For example, according to Chandra & Willis (2005) reports on the shortage of the nursing workforce in America and states that nurses are a major importance to the healthcare industry in the United States. In addition, the article reports about American healthcare organizations recruiting foreign-educated nurses to help with the shortage. However, there could be problems with associated with importing foreign-educated nurses into the country, such as discrimination and abuse, as well as cultural and social issues. This is something that could discourage nurses from migrating to other countries; however, I do not feel that actively discouraging these nurses on purpose is productive. Nursing shortages exist in other developed and developing countries as well. It is just a matter of personal preference where a nurse wishes to pursue his or her nursing career. I think another good idea is for these countries to encourage the younger generation to study nursing so that new nurses are constantly being bred into the industry.
