Nurses Within My Department, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 329

Essay

The sample population I will use in my research inquiry will include nurses within my department. Furthermore, patients in the department will be asked to complete surveys. As such, my project will include a convenience sample. Since medication errors have the potential to impact individuals independently of age, gender, and medical condition, all in-patients in the department will be seen as potential candidates. Individuals that consent to participation will be asked to join the study and be issued a survey. Therefore, the sample size is also dependent on the number of individuals that are willing to participate in the study.

The variable that will be measured is the nurse’s perception of interventions that are being implemented to reduce medication errors in addition to the patient’s perception of the quality of care that he or she is receiving. To answer my research question, I will need to retrieve data both after the baseline and the implementation of new health record recording protocol to determine the impacts on practice (Leedy & Omrod, 2012). The procedure will be implemented by issuing different surveys to nurses and patients. Patients will be provided with a patient satisfaction survey and nurses will be asked to provide their detailed opinions about the intervention based on guided questions. A statistical analysis will be conducted to determine differences in attitudes from baseline to the end of the research project. Since the sample being used is meant to be reflective of my department, it will be beneficial to encourage as many individuals as possible to participate. To ensure that there is no misrepresentation, it is important for the participants to understand that their answers will not be judge. To provide misunderstandings, surveys will be issued in a legible font size with clear language. To control for bias, results should be blinded during analysis. All answers will be organized using Excel prior to analysis and coded for qualitative understanding.
