Nursing Boss Leadership Style, Essay Example

The manager who interviewed me was in an administrative position at a healthcare facility. As the manager described his responsibilities and leadership philosophy, it was apparent that the manager employs the democratic leadership style. The manager said he communicates openly with everyone because the facility doesn’t only focus on the highest healthcare standards but also operating efficiency, thus, it is important to keep everyone up-to-date and also explain the rationale behind any new policy that might have been decided by the management. The manager also said he encourages everyone to provide feedback and even ideas and when he is faced with a problem, he seeks everyone’s input before making a decision. Even when the decision has been made, he doesn’t hesitate to change it if it has demoralizing impact on the different stakeholder groups or may not be working as well as he expected. The manager also said he tries to give as much decision-making authority to everyone as possible but also monitors their performance. He claimed he believes in the professional competence of everyone working at the facility but does encourage them to come to him with any problem they may have or if they need more resources to do their job better. It was clear from the interview that the manager believes in open communication and involving everyone in decision-making process even if he may have the final say.
